1/29/2021 0 Comments Life is a highway....Signs give us direction and tell us what lies ahead if we take a particular exit. This sign means so much more to me than the direction of where to go. It is a reflection of paths taken to get to this point. Just four and a half short years ago, Portland, MI meant something to me (being from the GR area). It meant a sure exit if I needed to refill on gas or caffeine! Four years ago God called us to uproot our family and move to Portland. We were pretty sure we were moving before we even looked at the town. And after spending one day here checking it out, meeting people and going to church, we were sure of the decision. We fell in love with it and couldn’t wait to call it home! We have been very blessed by taking that Portland exit in our Highway of Life!
I was visited by a gentleman at The Port the week of Christmas who I had not seen before. I asked how he heard about Modern Craft Wine. To which he replied, “your highway sign”. I asked, “what highway sign?”. He went on to tell me about the sign at the exit. I was beyond excited for this news and told him he made my whole week. I knew the sign was in the works last year right before the shut downs and didn’t expect to have it happen anytime soon (especially not in 2020). My first time taking exit 76 and seeing that sign brought about a flood of emotions. That represents our business! That sign has already brought travelers to the wonderful town of Portland! Many of you are already aware of God’s calling for us to open a business in downtown Portland (if not, read the FB blog for the full story). We wanted this to be a destination for people, we wanted it to be a place of rest, a place where people can connect with others and rejuvenate. We wanted it to be a so-called “Port” off the highway of life for both those from around here and those traveling. That sign represents so much! No matter what path we take in life, God is there showing us the way. But we do have to read the signs and take time to stop and enjoy the journey! God Bless you all in 2021 and we hope to see you soon!!!!

The dream I never dreamt....Arriving home after my LIT (Ladies in Truth) group on Saturday morning, I walked in the kitchen where my husband, Brian, and three youngest children (of 6) were gathered and words started flying out of my mouth. I claimed I was starting a business in downtown Portland. It was going to feature Modern Craft Wine and chocolate and kittens. Questions came at me....”who are you?”, “where did that come from?”, “what did you did with my mom?”. Whether my family asked those questions out loud or if it was the rational voice in my head, I honestly don’t remember. What I do remember thinking is ‘that thought could have only come from God’. See I have NEVER wanted to own my own business. ArchivesCategories |
